The vision, the purpose, the reason for this Gathering we call COLLIDE is in your heart – you might not realize it, but it’s there. At some point in your busy life, you’ve thought about it; I’m sure you did.
Sometimes as teenagers who love God, we tend to feel rather isolated in our schools where we are surrounded by tons of people who don’t know God. Being Christians, we feel belittled, as though we are only a part of something small, something insignificant or useless. Even when we have a prayer group every Tuesday after school, it’s usually only a handful of students; never the majority. That’s how I felt last August. It was like… maan… I felt so alone as a Christian… yeah sure…I have my youth group and my Christian friends in school, but they only total to a mere 50 or so people. What are 50 people compared to the hundreds of others around me who don’t know God? Aren’t there more teenagers who love God in Singapore? Well… obviously there are! But trapped in our own little Christian groups, we don’t realize that we’re in a story that far exceeds 50 people!!! You have your little youth group, I have my little youth group, David has his little youth group and thousands of other teenagers have their little youth groups. That’s 30ppl + 50ppl + 100 + 40 + 120 + 75 + 23 + … u get the idea… Imagine if just for once, we break down all the divisions of Churches and doctrines and our individual programs and other stuff and UNITE for a night.
A night where we remind ourselves that we are not alone… that there are many more teenagers like us who are so in LOVE with GOD. One night to remind us that we are part of a story that far surpasses 50 teenage Christians. A night spent to remember that though individually we may seem miniscule, we each form a part of God’s gigantic story in Singapore and the world - a story that started long before we were born and will continue long after the world ends. When we COLLIDE with this eternal God and with each other and for once, gather and become ONE… maaan… imagine how great of an impact we can make in Singapore if we work TOGETHER!
However, I hope COLLIDE will do more than make us feel secure and good about being a Christian; I hope this wave of unity won’t just end with the THE GATHERING in July as we head off again to pursue our individual programs again. This gathering is not made for you to meet more people to gang up on non-Christians friends… it isn’t held to promote a single Church or a specific doctrine… But ultimately I hope that that this one night in July will be the start of a God-centered movement that will unite many anointed but separated youth groups into ONE powerful and mighty generation to do greater things to make GOD famous in Singapore! We stand alone together! I hope greater co-operation, unity and mutual-support among youth groups in Singapore will be birthed out and youth groups can continue to COLLIDE with one another and with God long after this gathering. We may not worship God the same way or pray the same way, yet I believe our LOVE for Christ can unite us all just the same and there is surely power in UNITY. It is all about Him. SO… going back to WHY COLLIDE? Why do we have this gathering in the first place? WE COLLIDE FOR HIS FAME.Period.
